SEPA Direct Debit is a reliable payment method, but it works differently from instant payments like cards or PayPal. Because banks need time to process SEPA payments, confirmation can take several days. Koalect is designed to handle this delay transparently and clearly for both donors and organisations.

This article explains what donors and organisations can expect when using SEPA Direct Debit.

What happens when someone donates via SEPA Direct Debit?

After completing the donation, the donor immediately sees a confirmation screen. This screen clearly states that the donation has been registered and the bank will process the payment in the coming days A confirmation email will follow once the payment is finalised. If a SEPA payment is later rejected by the bank, the donor is notified.

In MyKoalect, SEPA Direct Debit donations are clearly identifiable:

  • SEPA donations are marked as pending until the bank confirms them
  • Once confirmed, the status updates automatically
  • Filters allow you to distinguish between pending and confirmed donations
  • Failed transactions are clearly visible as such

Which emails are sent for SEPA payments?

Koalect sends specific emails for SEPA Direct Debit transactions:

  • SEPA transaction registered: Sent immediately after the donor completes the donation, confirming the payment is being processed.
  • Transaction failed: Sent if the bank is unable to process the payment, clearly explaining what happened and allowing the donor to try again.
